But before you get too enticed by the amount of variety and flexibility in the job, it is important that you know first the basics of this job- what can you expect from medical assistant jobs in NC or in other parts of the country? In a most comprehensive definition, a medical assistant is expected to perform a number of clinical and administrative job roles in the offices of doctors and medical practitioners. These assistants in the offices are there so that the doctors and medical practitioners can easily and smoothly carry out their tasks and responsibilities for the day. Though the general job roles of medical assistants may vary, let it be known that the jobs and duties of assistants may vary and differ as well depending of the size and of course depending of the specialty of the doctor or the medical practitioner.

For example, if you get a job as a medical assistant for a small clinic then you can rest assured that your tasks and activities will be different from other assistants. In a small clinic set-up serving limited number of patients, the assistant is tasked to focus on the administrative and other clinical roles and the assistant will directly report to the doctor. And if you find your way into a large clinic or hospital, then the work set-up may differ as well. In terms of structure, this time around you will be reporting to the department administrator. As mentioned, these jobs may vary depending on the actual jobs done.  Here are the three (3) major variations of medical assistant jobs in NC.

*· Administrative medical assistants. For this specific job, the candidate is assigned to update and file the medical records of patients. This person is also tasked to fill out the insurance forms if any, and the administrative assistant is expected to admit and manage the entry and the exit of patients.

*· Clinical medical assistants. The roles that can be played by these assistants will depend on state requirements. And finally;

*· Ophthalmic medical assistants or podiatric medical assistants.  Specialty medical assistants will perform special extra job requirements. Some of their tasks include getting and performing diagnostic tests.
