Manchester building could inspire interest in electrical courses
Interest in electrical courses may soon spike in Somerset after it was revealed that EDF Energy intends to build a nuclear power plant near Bridgwater.It will involve some £500 million of investment by the firm and also looks set to boost employment in the area, both while the facility is being built and when it is up and running.
The firm announced that it is set to recruit 5,000 construction workers either directly or through its contractors, as well as a workforce of 900 full-time employees to run the plant.
It is likely that the services of engineers who have completed electrical courses will be required at several points during the building process and beyond.
Workers living in the nearby area may be happy to hear that EDF hopes to hire much of its staff from the local area, which should provide a huge boost to the region.
The firm"s managing director of nuclear new build remarked: "I am delighted our plans for twin reactors at Hinkley Point C will create major economic benefits for Somerset and the south-west."
