Council efforts could help north-east plumbers
South Tyneside Council"s efforts to provide employment opportunities to young people in the region could benefit those who have taken plumber training courses.According to the local authority, the number of 16-year-olds not in education, employment or training dropped to nine per cent between November 2009 and January 2010 from 10.2 per cent the year before.
The council"s head of transition and wellbeing Christine Smith commented: "The recession will continue to affect the prospects of young people"s in South Tyneside throughout 2010 but the council will continue to work on improving the opportunities that are available to them."
She added it aims to do this by increasing the range of college, employment and training opportunities to young people in the region, as well as offering a larger number of apprenticeship schemes.
The authority and its Connexions Service recently held its annual Get Up and Go event, which aims to help young Brits meet a variety of different organisations offering learning prospects.
